Chicaque Natural Park – Hiking Experience from Bogotá

Discover Chicaque Natural Park, a magical and unforgettable natural reserve located just outside Bogotá. The park is home to a unique ecosystem characteristic of the Andean mountain ranges, known as the Bosque de Niebla (Cloud Forest).

Explore this 300-hectare natural reserve of sub-Andean forest, with altitudes ranging from 2,000 to 2,700 meters (6,560–8,860 ft) and temperatures between 11°C and 17°C (52–63°F).

Itinerary

Your private guide will pick you up in the morning directly at your hotel in Bogotá. From there, you will drive for approximately 2 hours to Chicaque Natural Park, located southwest of the Sabana de Bogotá, in the municipality of San Antonio del Tequendama.

Once you arrive at the park, you can enjoy its spectacular viewpoint, which on clear days offers beautiful views of the snow-capped peaks of the Tolima, Santa Isabel and Ruiz volcanoes.

Your private guide will then accompany you on an approximately 3-hour hike through this spectacular natural reserve. Chicaque is home to more than 200 species of birds, numerous mammals, reptiles and amphibians, as well as a remarkable variety of plants. The park features seven types of forest, around 20 km of ecological trails and three streams of crystal-clear water.

The region also has a rich historical heritage. The name Chicaque comes from the language of the Muisca, the indigenous people who inhabited these valleys and highlands before the Spanish conquest.

At the end of the hike, you can relax and enjoy a delicious lunch at the park’s restaurant.

If you are looking for an additional adrenaline-filled experience, you can also try the zipline, available as an optional activity at an additional cost.

In the early afternoon, you will begin the hike back towards the park entrance with your private guide. If you prefer not to hike back, a 4×4 transfer can be arranged as an optional service at an additional cost.

In the afternoon, you will return to Bogotá with private transportation and drop-off directly at your hotel.
